R2104: PC Main Memory Overview (Intel, July 1996, page 8)

EDO
Extended Data Out DRAM is a fast and in-expensive form of main memory. It is
the most common from memory used today. EDO is an enhanced form of
asynchronous FPM. The simple change in the use of the Column address strobe
signal, CAS. Output buffers are not disabled by CAS going inactive (high) and
the data output overlapped with the CAS precharge. This technique gives about
a 24% increase in effective bandwidth over FPM. Generic FPM DRAM provides x-
333-333 at 66MHz Bus speed, EDO DRAM provides x-222-3222 at 66MHz Bus speed.
EDO is supported by all of today's motherboards. EDO really acts as a mid
life kicker for generic DRAM, but has no "headroom" for further performance
improvment.

tutaj jest piekny rysuneczek, ktorego niestety nie potrafie przerysowac :(
ktory pokazuje jak to dokladnie dziala i czym sie rozni od FPM.
