Hej,
dobra, to zacznijmy tę dyskusję o CD-ROMach. Chyba warto, bo wielu ludzi
stoi przed zakupem wyżej wymienionego i nie wie na co się zdecydować.
No więc były opinie o CD-ROMach GoldStara (LG), niektórzy uważają że to
chłam i tylko na śmietnik się nadają. Inni - wręcz przeciwnie. Myślę, że tak
samo będzie z innymi markami.
Mam więc propozycję. Odpalmy gdzieś na sieci stronę o CD-ROMach, gdzie będą
informacje rzetelne - i od producenta i od klientów (ich opinie). Takie
strony angielskie już są, ale uważam, że warto mieć polską. A więc na razie
piszmy o CD-ROM, CD-R, CD-RW, DVD na newsach jako Re: na tę wiadomość.
Przysyłajcie opinie, benchmarki itp.
Ja to zbiorę i wrzucę na jakąś swoją podstronę (oczywiście wraz z nazwiskami
autorów postów) i powiadomię Was o tym.
1. CD-ROMy Toshiby.
Pracuję na nich już od ponad trzech lat, pierwszy miał szybkość 4x, obecny
24x (XM-6102B), zmieniam na DVD 2x (oczywiście też Toshiby). Świadczy to o
moim ZAUFANIU do tych napędów.
Są (według mnie):
- niezawodne
Miałem do czynienia z wieloma CD, ale tylko Toshiba czyta naprawdę
koszmarnie wyglądające płyty - i robi to bezbłędnie!
- szybkie
Pamiętajcie, że cyferka przed mnożnikiem to tylko bajer. 32x będzie niewiele
szybszy od 12x (w normalnych zastosowaniach).
Ale Toshiba jeszcze przy 24x pokazuje swoją szybkość dzięki zastosowaniu
ciekawych mechanizmów (wiem, stosowanych też w wielu innych napędach - ale
znowu, w Toshibie najlepiej)
- nowoczesne (czytają wszystkie formaty zapisu)
tego chyba nie muszę komentować - wiadomo jak potrawi wkurzyć napęd nie
czytający np. CD-RW, czy CD-i.
Pragnę zaznaczyć, że za naprawdę najlepsze uważam czytniki Plextora, jednak
ich wysoka cena uniemożliwia ich porównanie z Toshibą - to zupełnie inna
kategoria - i zastosowań i ceny.
Załączam dane producenta o modelach XM-6102B (mój obecny CD) oraz SD-M 1202
(DVD nowej generacji, już w sprzedaży np, w firmie Alstor). Co do CD - moje
wyniki z benchmarków wskazują, że producent podaje swoje wyniki bardzo
rozsądnie - tzn. moje osiągi były czasem lepsze!! Sorry, że info jest po
angielsku i trochę bezładne, ale nie miałem czasu na poprawki - jest tak,
jak było na stronie Toshiby ;-)
### XM-6102B
Toshiba's new CD-ROM drive owes its excellent performance to Partial-CAV
technology, a combination of CLV (Constant Linear Velocity) and CAV
(Constant Angular Velocity) technologies. This enhancement not only enables
the XM-6102B to achieve a soaring data transfer rate of 3.6MB/s but also an
average random seek time of only 85ms and a random access time of a mere
90ms. Technological improvements also cut the average power consumption to
only 8.5W.
Accelerated operation of the digital signal processor, even further improved
error correction capabilities, pick-up head and motor add to the high
quality of this new CD-ROM drive. As does Toshiba's proven
performance-enhancing digital servo system and variable speed playback which
allows reading to start long before the disc speed reaches any standard
rotational rate.
The new XM-6102B supports CD-RW and CD-R standards as well as all industry
standards including CD-ROM, CD-DA, CD-ROM XA, CD-I, CD-I Ready, CD-I Bridge
(Photo CD, Video CD), Multisession (Photo CD, CD EXTRA, CD-E), CD-G and
MPC-3.

### SD-M 1202
Toshiba Europe GmbH announced the launch of the SD-M1202, its new 4.8-speed
(max) DVD-ROM drive, which has a data transfer rate of 6,535 KB/s. With the
introduction of the SD-M1202 DVD-ROM drive, which also performs as a 32
speed max CD-ROM drive, Toshiba confirms its position as a market leader in
DVD and CD-ROM drives. The SD-M1202 achieves an average random seek time of
105 ms in DVD Mode and 90 ms in CD Mode. The average access time is 135 ms
in DVD Mode and 105 ms in CD Mode. The DVD-ROM drive owes its excellent
performance to the use of Full CAV (Constant Angular Velocity) technology.
The SD-M1202 is a 5.25" form factor drive that fully conforms to the DVD-ROM
format. With new decoder boards available, the enhanced performance of
MPEG-2 and DolbyTM AC-3 will allow PC users to experience video and sound at
a level far surpassing that possible with CD-ROM.
SD-M1202 with an ATAPI interface integrates Toshiba?s wide-ranging
state-of-the-art technologies for high density optical discs. These include
a new pick-up head, system LSIs and a newly developed short wave laser diode
which has a wavelength of 650 nanometers.
Apart from tray-disk loading and a MTBF of 100,000 hours, the DVD-ROM can,
of course, be installed either horizontally or vertically. The power
consumption is low, 7.1W (average). All CD- and DVD-ROM industry standards
have been taken into account in the development of the SD-M1202 including
CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-Video and DVD-R.
