Materials Congress 2004
Materials Congress 2004 is the fourth in a series of major materials conferences organised by the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining. The first Congress was held in 1998 followed by larger events in 2000 and 2002 (view review here). Congress 2004 will be held at the same London venue which proved so popular with delegates at Congress 2002.
Congress 2004 will cover the complete materials cycle, from minerals exploration and extraction, through processing, product manufacture and applications, to product recycling and land re-use. The event will reflect the importance of materials developments and materials innovation on everyday life, increasing prosperity and people's quality of life while conserving the Earth's resources.
The event will be officially opened on Tuesday 30 March by Professor Sir David King KB ScD FRS, Chief Scientific Adviser to HM Government and Head of the Office of Science and Technology.
Programme
The Congress programme will combine sixteen technical symposia of oral presentations with keynote speakers and six major plenary lectures held over three days, with poster sessions and a full supporting programme of public lectures, exhibitions, special events and social meetings.
Congress provides a forum to bring together those working at the cutting edge in materials research in academia, industry and other research organisations. The programme will be of interest to those working in all fields of materials science and technology, whether they be based in materials science, chemistry, physics or engineering groups. A series of themes will offer representatives of government, the financial markets and the media an opportunity to understand the significance and opportunities from materials innovation in the economy, improving people's quality of life while conserving the Earth's resources.
Poster papers are still being invited - deadline 28 February 2004. Click here for details.
Bursaries will be available for students presenting oral or poster papers.
