      Research focus of the Centre:
The research agenda of the Center focuses on the various aspects of the integration in the European Research Area (ERA) of the Polish R&D potential of the foundry science and technology for Newly Associated Countries (NAS) such as Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Slovenia, Lithuania and Bulgaria. Integration of the Centres with ERA in foundry industry will be attempt via a network of information exchange and agreements with mutual R&D centres and organization units of the European Union (EU) through supporting the development of advanced technologies, strengthening links between well-experienced EU research centers and similar centers in NAS countries, reorientation of activity towards new priorities to ensure better competitiveness of the European foundry industry as compared with US and Japan foundry organizations, raising the R&D potential of the Centre using skill and competence of the research and development staff and experts. Mission of Centre as first one in Central Europe will be transfer of the advanced technologies to ensure of NAS foundries in international markets, development and implementation of methods to eliminate environmental pollution caused by foundry plants and methods for recycling and reuse of wastes generated during foundry production and creation of database in the scope of scientific, technical and economic (including statistics) information and transfer these data to the centers concerned.
Research projects currently run in the Centre:
Currently there are 6 domestic project approved in Centre (sponsored by Ministry of Economy and Polish State Committee for Scientific Research) and 6 EU projects (3 accepted, 3 submitted).

      Human resources:
The permanent staff of the Centre consists of 32 scientists (incl. 5 full professors, 4 associate professors, 24 doctors, 20 senior scientists and 10 scientists), 20 technicians and 28 persons of administration. At present there are also 10 PhD students and, on average, 6 postgraduate students gaining their Master degree in the Centre.

      Training possibility:
There is a possibility for foreign students to take part or the whole of their studies in the Centre - both on MSc and PhD levels. There is also possibilities for full training of scientists and technicians in plenty of foundry sciences and practice.

      Scientific co-operation:
The Centre has bilateral agreements with 10 foreign scientific institutions from all over the world and a number of smaller scale memorandums of understanding. The national network counts for more than 30 Polish research institutes and universities.

      Co-operation with industrial partners:
The Centre is permanently collaborating with many of domestic industrial partners, being main foundry organization in Poland. The part of PFRI is Pilot Plant, working in semi- and full-production scale using different cast techniques for Fe- and nonferrous alloys. Although there are no well-established permanent links with the industrial partners, the Center is open for co-operation with European foundries
